The First Tee

Since 1997, The First Tee has introduced the game of golf and its positive values to millions of young people, and in 2015, the organization reached more than 4.7 with character-building programs.

To impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.

On Golf Courses
With more than 1,080 locations in the U.S. and several other countries, The First Tee uses golf to teach youth ages 7 to 18 life lessons and leadership skills. Teaming up with experts in positive youth development, The First Tee helps youth become good golfers and even better people.

What makes The First Tee effective in building positive character traits in young people is The First Tee Life Skills Experience™, a curriculum developed with the help of academic, sport psychology, youth development and golf experts to proactively teach these lessons for life as part of the basic program. The Life Skills Experience is delivered by trained coaches, and through this experience, participants learn to apply life skills and transfer the positive values of golf to everyday life.

In Elementary Schools
In more than 8,000 elementary schools across the United States, many students are teeing off for the first time thanks to The First Tee National School Program. The program brings our curriculum to students during physical education class. Physical educators take professional development training and obtain age-appropriate curriculum and equipment for effective implementation into their programs. By teaching elementary students The First Tee Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits, we’re putting them on the course to a healthy and active lifestyle.

Individuals, companies, parent-teacher associations, golf-industry organizations and more provide funding for schools and school districts to implement the program, which continues to expand throughout the United States.

At Youth Centers
We believe our values extend beyond the golf course, which is why we launched a program to meet youth where they spend time. Specifically designed for youth-serving organizations, like the Y and the Boys & Girls Club, The First Tee DRIVE gives kids the chance to learn about golf and develop character through fun golf games. The program modifies traditional sports—including baseball, football, bowling and tennis—to incorporate the four basic golf shots: putt, chip, pitch and full swing. Each activity empowers young people to explore their abilities and develop life-enhancing values along the way by integrating The First Tee Nine Core Values™ in each lesson.

The First Tee DRIVE has been introduced to more than 700 youth-serving organizations.
