For 20 years, The First Tee has been introducing the game of golf and its positive values to young people. The organization now reaches more than 5.3 youth annually with character-building programs delivered on golf courses, in schools and at youth centers.
To impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
On Golf Courses
With more than 1,200 locations in the U.S. and several other countries, The First Tee uses golf to teach youth ages 7 to 18. It’s delivered by trained coaches, and through this experience, participants learn to apply life skills and transfer the positive values of golf to everyday life.
And it works. The First Tee helps youth become good golfers and even better people.
- 84% of teen participants and 85% of alumni credit The First Tee for helping them be a better student in school
- 96% of teen participants and 90% of alumni consider themselves lifelong golfers
- 91% of alumni engaged in community service while involved in The First Tee, while 72% of alumni still do engage in community service (compared to 22% of general public aged 16-24)
In Elementary Schools
In more than 9,000 elementary schools across the United States, many students are teeing off for the first time thanks to The First Tee National School Program. The program brings our curriculum to students during physical education class. Physical educators take professional development training and obtain age-appropriate curriculum and equipment for effective implementation into their class. By teaching elementary students The First Tee Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits, we’re putting them on the course to a healthy and active lifestyle.
Individuals, companies, parent-teacher associations, golf-industry organizations and more provide funding for schools and school districts to implement the program, which continues to expand throughout the United States.
At Youth Centers
Specifically designed for youth-serving organizations, like the Y and the Boys & Girls Club, The First Tee DRIVE gives youth the chance to learn about golf and develop character through fun golf games. The program modifies traditional sports—including baseball, football, bowling and tennis—to incorporate the four basic golf shots: putt, chip, pitch and full swing. Each activity empowers young people to explore their abilities and develop life-enhancing values along the way by integrating The First Tee Nine Core Values™ in each lesson.
The First Tee DRIVE has been introduced to more than 1,000 youth-serving organizations.
