|On behalf of the PGA TOUR, welcome to the 2016-17 PGA TOUR season.|
We appreciate and respect your role in bringing our game closer to the fans through the many media platforms now available. Our communications staff looks forward to delivering the best possible service to you in the coming year.
For the fourth time, the TOUR embarks on a wraparound schedule which bridges two years with 47 events. The 2016-17 PGA TOUR season kicks off in early October, with the Safeway Open, and includes three more domestic and three international tournaments, providing players with a great opportunity to get a jump in the FedExCup standings. In 2015-16, four of the seven fall winners qualified for the season-ending TOUR Championship.
The schedule then resumes in January with the traditional swing through Hawaii before moving to the West Coast. The FedExCup Playoffs once again features four events and concludes in September 2017 at the TOUR Championship and the crowning of the FedExCup champion.
The TOUR and its tournaments have donated more than $2 billion in all-time charitable giving. Having reached this record milestone, we extend a special thank you to the players, tournaments, sponsors, volunteers and fans that have helped improve countless numbers of lives through PGA TOUR charities.
In its 11th year in 2017, the FedExCup continues to leave a lasting impression as we say goodbye to one season and look to the next. In 2016, the season extended beyond 72 holes at East Lake Golf Club with Rory McIlroy outlasting Ryan Moore and Kevin Chappell in a four-hole playoff to earn his first FedExCup title. McIlroy made history as he surpassed Tiger Woods for the most all-time FedExCup Playoffs wins, becoming the first player to capture four Playoffs titles with wins at the Dell Technologies Championship and TOUR Championship.
Shortly after we concluded the 2015-16 FedExCup Playoffs, players were asked to vote on PGA TOUR Player of the Year and PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year. We were pleased to announce Dustin Johnson as Player of the Year and Emiliano Grillo as Rookie of the Year.
Finally, we welcome our 50 Web.com Tour graduates and look forward to their success on the PGA TOUR.
Again, thank you for your continued coverage of the PGA TOUR. We look forward to working with you throughout the 2016-17 season.
